New feature beta: AI-supported Q&A

Providing accurate and timely answers to questions is an important part of delivering a great learner experience. Learner questions can also be a great source of information about what’s creating clarity or confusion in your course. They can even serve as inspiration for future course topics. 


We’ve heard from many instructors that the value of Q&A is clear, but managing Q&A can be time-consuming or even stressful. Some struggle to reply to learners promptly. Others worry about nailing proper grammar and syntax when they’re in a hurry. Others want better ways to respond to repetitive questions. 


To make it quicker and easier to delight learners with answers to their questions, we’re introducing a new feature that lets you draft Q&A responses with a little help from AI. 


This feature is currently available in beta to a small subset of instructors, with plans to expand in the coming months.



How it works


If AI support is currently available for some of your questions, you’ll see a button at the bottom of each eligible Q&A response pane that says “Generate answer with AI.” Clicking this button will populate a draft response using a generative AI model that utilizes your specific course content (including videos, quizzes, and practice tests) as well as your previous Q&A activity.



Once you have your draft response, it’s now yours to customize. You should review it for accuracy, edit as appropriate, and send the answer on to your learner. 


When a new question that is eligible for AI support is asked, it can take up to six hours for the response to become available. To help you identify questions that have an AI-supported answer ready, we’ve introduced a new filter for “Eligible for AI answer.” 



Once you’ve started using AI support, you can keep track of which answers you crafted with AI using the “Generated with AI” label on delivered answers. This label displays only to instructors for now, and won’t be displayed to learners who receive the responses you’ve opted to send.


Our goal with this feature is to reduce the time and effort it takes for you to maintain great learner experiences, while ensuring you retain control over the answers learners get from your course. With a custom AI model that leverages your own content and Q&A history, we hope to provide ready-to-send answers for a significant portion of your learner questions.



What’s next


We’re rolling out this feature slowly to understand how useful it is to instructors and how effective it is for learners. For now, we’ve enabled this feature for a subset of instructors with English content in select technical categories. We expect to extend availability in the coming months to all English technical instructors, and in the longer term to more categories and languages.
