To ensure Udemy remains the best place to teach and learn online, we’re proud to announce a new Instructor Verification process. As an open marketplace, we, like other platforms hosting user-generated content, sometimes face bad actors that seek to profit by stealing others’ identities. This is in clear violation of our terms and against every principle we value as proponents of open marketplaces.
Today, we’re announcing a new Instructor Verification process. We’re excited to announce that Instructor Verification will be powered in part by a third-party verification provider, Trulioo. Trulioo also powers user verification for eBay, Kickstarter, and PayPal.
Starting today, all instructors submitting new courses for review will be prompted to verify their identity. Our system will also run periodic identity verification sweeps of existing instructors on the marketplace. The two-step identity verification process should only take minutes, and you can exit and re-enter the flow at any time.
We take your rights seriously, and we strongly believe that this new Instructor Verification process will strengthen the trustworthiness of the marketplace.
