Instructor Economics

At Udemy, our instructors are truly our most valuable partners. So our partnership model is designed so that Udemy only succeeds when you, the instructor, succeed.

There is no fee to create and host your courses on Udemy, and you can publish either free or paid courses. Udemy shares in our instructors’ success by operating under a tiered revenue share for paid courses sold. We believe in a sustainable partnership where instructors are rewarded for creating amazing content and bringing students to the platform, and Udemy is rewarded for driving traffic to our instructors.

There are two main revenue share scenarios that instructors can expect to see most frequently:

  • Instructor Promotion → 100% revenue share (*minus 3% processing fee) when you make the sale using an Instructor Coupon (either at full price or at a discount).
  • Udemy Organic → 50% revenue share when Udemy makes the sale.

If you’re opted into any of Udemy’s Marketing Programs (Deals, Marketing Boost, or Udemy For Business Content Subscription), your revenue share may differ from the above and will range from 25%-97% depending on the program.  Keep in mind that these programs are completely optional, and you can change your participation status at any time in your Premium Instructor Settings. That said, instructors that participate in Udemy’s Marketing Programs make an average of 215% higher net revenue!

You’ll be able to track your sales, including the student source and traffic source for each student in your Udemy Revenue Report.
