News & Updates

Pricing Implementation

On April 4, Udemy’s new pricing and promotions structure went live! All courses on the site are now priced in tiers between $20-$50. To see the context behind this update, go here. We’ve also shared two additional informational blog posts, one around pricing within each category, and one around ongoing plans for Udemy’s course marketing team.

If you have any instructor created coupons that are now invalid under the new pricing scheme, you can use this form to request that our team update them. Just be sure to follow the directions to the letter.

We appreciate all the feedback from our instructor community over the last month and are excited to work towards a sustainable future together!

Free Preview

We recently just made an update to the way we offer Free Preview on Udemy. We’ve seen that offering a free peek into each course increases conversion and ensures that students end up in courses that are the right fit for their needs. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous individuals had misused the Free Preview feature to pirate courses. That’s why, as of March 15, we modified the feature so that students can only preview instructor-selected lectures.

Instructors must choose individual lectures to offer as Free Preview – combined these lectures should equal a minimum of 10 minutes and the selection should also include your very first lecture. By April 11, if the length of video lectures available for preview is under 10 minutes, we will automatically enable Free Preview for your first few lectures such that you meet the minimum requirement. If you haven’t yet, we encourage you to select which lectures in the course you’d like to offer as a free preview to prospective students.

Studio Guest Stars

Our Studio Guest Star series continues this week! On Thursday, April 7 at 10:00am Pacific, Frank from Udemy’s International Team will visit the Studio to chat with our instructor community! To meet Frank beforehand, check out this video:

To register for the event and submit a question beforehand, go here. Frank will lead a question and answer session and tell you all about how Udemy approaches new markets and how you as an instructor can broaden your international reach. Here’s how to join the event:

  1. Register here and submit any questions you have for Frank. We’ll also send you a reminder email approximately 1 hour before the Q&A begins.
  2. Go to the Studio at 10:00am Pacific (5:00pm GMT) on Thursday, April 7.
  3. Look for the pinned post at the top of the group announcing that the Q&A is beginning. Then interact with Frank on the thread, and get all your questions answered!
Udemy LIVE

We’re thrilled to see so many instructors already registered for Udemy LIVE! This inaugural Udemy instructor summit will take place in San Francisco from June 24-26. This a chance for instructors from around the globe to gather in-person, share ideas, celebrate achievements, and get to know one another and the Udemy team. The event-packed weekend will include speakers, panels, hands-on breakout sessions, a tour of our office, a formal Gala dinner, and of course, lots of socializing and networking. You can check out a more detailed agenda here.

To reserve your spot at Udemy LIVE, you’ll need to use the personal Registration ID provided in the official email invitation you received (if you didn’t receive one, let us know). Register before April 15 to take advantage of the early-bird price ($149)!.
