News & Updates
Sender Name in Course Announcements
We’ve updated the “sender” field for course announcements so that it should now read “Udemy Instructor: [Instructor’s Name]”. This allows the student recipient to better differentiate between Udemy marketing emails and instructor announcements.
Update to Free Preview Feature
This week we updated the way we offer Free Preview on Udemy. We’ve seen that offering a free peek into each course increases conversion and ensures that students end up in courses that are the right fit for their needs. Unfortunately, in the past some individuals have misused the Free Preview feature to download course content and post it on pirate sites. We’ve modified the feature so that students can only preview instructor-selected lectures, but this means we need your help. Please see this post for more guidance on your next steps!
French Studio Launched!
We just launched a French Studio! If you’re planning to teach a course in French, go here to join the French speaking instructor community. We also have Studios in German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese.
We’re currently testing out a shopping cart feature. This feature will allow students to purchase multiple courses at once, rather than going through the payment process for each individual course. Right now only the test is only active for a very small percentage of Udemy students, but we’ll keep you updated as the test expands.
Global Education & Skills Forum
Udemy’s CEO, Dennis Yang, presented at the Global Education & Skills Forum last week in Dubai. While he was there, he had the opportunity to meet (and take a photo with) Eliza Guerra Cruz, an instructor from Mexico. If you’re interested in watching Dennis’ presentation, check it out here.
In the Community
Over the past few months at Udemy we’ve been busy making updates to our platform and marketplace. We want to make sure you, as an instructor and partner, understand the broader context behind these changes: where they fit into our 2016 roadmap and our long-term company vision. Over the next week we’ll be sharing Your Guide to Udemy’s 2016 Roadmap: Q1 Spotlight. You can check out the first installment here!
Upcoming sections will include instructor communication tools, student-instructor feedback loop, and pricing & promotions. If you’d like to join the discussion, head over to the Studio!
