News & Updates

Updating Udemy’s Pricing & Promotions

Last week we announced an important update to pricing and promotions on Udemy. As of April 4, our new pricing model will combine instructors’ desire to minimize discounts with students’ desire for fair and consistent pricing. We believe that combining lower list prices with smaller discounts will help ensure that Udemy remains a sustainable and accessible marketplace for both instructors and students for years to come.

Student Course-Taking Experience

We’re running a large beta test for the new student course-taking experience. About half of our student audience is now opted into the test, and if all goes well, we’ll be rolling out the new experience for all users soon. With this in mind, you may want to make changes to the way you reference certain Udemy interface features in your courses. Please go here for more details! We’ll continue to iterate and improve the experience for students and instructors on our platform, but this does mean that designs can change rapidly. If you currently have a lecture in one or more courses that shows students how to navigate the Udemy course interface, we recommend you try making this an Article lecture so it can be easily updated in the future.

Enhanced Mobile Promotions

In the past, it was possible for students to see a course on sale on the website (targeted specifically for them) but the same course listed for full price on their mobile app (because the sale didn’t extend to the app). We’re now better synchronizing web and mobile promotions to offer a more cohesive browsing and purchasing experience for students.

Mexican Peso

We’ve taken another exciting step in expanding the global reach of your courses: as of February we began supporting the Mexican Peso (MXN)! This continues a larger effort to provide localized experiences for students around the world. Last year we updated our iOS and Android apps to display course prices in international currencies and updated our website to support course prices in British Pound (GBP), Euro (EUR), Japanese Yen (JPY), and Singaporean Dollar (SGD). Mexican Peso has now been added to the list!

Talent Buddy

We recently acquired Talentbuddy in order to accelerate the integration of coding exercises into the Udemy experience and strengthen our experiential learning capabilities. Talentbuddy’s interactive learn-to-code platform has already been used by 45,000 developers to improve their ability to solve problems, build applications, advance their careers, and get new jobs. We’re excited to bring Talentbuddy’s amazing experience to the Udemy team!
